Brush up Your Skills: Understanding Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

#TRUEBEAUTY is more than a pleasing look, it comes from within as a person’s inner harmony radiates through to the outside; this is why – inspired by modern aromatherapy – Oil Ultime utilises aromatic Essential Oils in the salon. Clients are taken on a sensorial journey to REbalance hair and mind for true beauty from the inside out…
…but what exactly is aromatherapy and how do essential oils work?

What is aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy has been practiced by different cultures for centuries through a consistent use of specific herbal and plant-based remedies. Traditionally, aromatherapy works with naturally-derived essential oils from a variety of plants, which are known to improve our physical and psychological well-being.

What are essential oils?
Essential oils are the natural, aromatic compounds extracted from herbs, citrus fruits, tree leaves, branches, and flowers. They are used for their medicinal and therapeutic properties and can be specifically blended for use in various ways.

How does a person’s mood influence well-being and beauty?
When a person is relaxed and in a good mood, the body is in “charging mode”. In this mode, blood and lymph circulation is improved promoting the regeneration of cells. However, when a person is angry or stressed, the body enters into a “fright, fight or flight mode”. This can cause blood pressure and blood glucose levels to rise, meaning that blood flow to the digestive organs and skin diminishes, and cell regeneration and growth are postponed.

Depending on the time spent in either mode on a daily basis, a person’s health and beauty will be affected. Through aromatherapy, essential oils are used to care for the body; the specific blends of natural scents bring the heart into a happy and relaxed state and take a person back into “charging mode”. This stimulates good health, which radiates from the inside out.
